Abstract: The issue of territorial disputes between India and Pakistan - two countries possessing nuclear weapons in South Asia, has been a hot issue not only for the region but also globally. The US involvement in this issue over the past several decades has been adjusted due to the impact of the regional and international context, the changing strategic interests and the political position of the US towards South Asia. The article clarifies the role of the US in the India-Pakistan territorial dispute as an ally of Pakistan and a strategic partner of India. Thereby, it shows the change of the US from the role of a conflict solver to a crisis manager and some policy implications for Vietnam. The article is the result of a research funded by the National Foundation for Science and Technology Development (NAFOSTED) under project code 506.01-2020.301.
Keywords: territorial disputes, India, Pakistan, role, US, Vietnam.
