Vietnam - India development cooperation: A perspective from India’s Look East policy

Abstract: In 1991, India launched the “Look East” Policy; and after Modi was elected Prime Minister of India in 2014, the Prime Minister upgraded the “Look East” to the “Act East” policy. So far, India’s “Look East” policy has positively impacted the eastern part of Asia, especially Southeast Asia, where Vietnam is located. India has always considered Vietnam the centerpiece of this policy in Southeast Asia. The article generalizes and explains the reasons for the achievements in Vietnam - India relations, Vietnam in India’s “Look East” policy, and the direction of the two countries’ relations.
