Abstract: Legal assistance is an essential public service that contributes to ensuring human rights and people’s rights to justice and equality before the law. The article examines the position and role of legal aid activities in the construction of a socialist rule of law; the views of the Party and State on legal aid activities; international experience, and the current state of legal aid practices in Vietnam; and then proposes solutions to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of state management of legal aid and renovate the organization and operation of legal aid by 2030 to meet the requirements of building and perfecting the socialist law-ruled State of Vietnam.
